Background

Throughout my life I've played numerous sports, spent countless hours in traditional gyms, and ran numerous miles in the name of fitness. I've competed in CrossFit, Powerlifting, Olympic Weightlifting, and Strongman. I love to do it all, and I bring a wealth of knowledge, experience, and passion to the gym every single day. Owning a gym has changed my life. I've met so many wonderful people and seen so many amazing transformations. At times the days are long and hard, but the reward from seeing people succeed and achieve their goals makes it all worth it.

Favorite thing about being a Coach

My absolute favorite thing about coaching is seeing individuals push themselves beyond what they think they are capable of. The human body is capable of achieving so much more than we believe. Countless times I've seen someone start a workout with terror and doubt about the upcoming challenge only to later persevere through adversity and achieve greatness. It is an amazing thing to watch.

I've been involved in marital arts since I was seven years old. I competed at the state and national level, until I found a new passion in basketball. I played until my freshmen year in college where I decided to start mixed martial arts in 2006. I used CrossFit as a tool in my training for fights and fell in love with it.

I found my dream job as a personal training in 2007 and knew owning a gym some day was what I wanted to do. I graduated in 2010 with a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and began coaching CrossFit in 2013.

Favorite thing about being a Coach

Seeing a member achieve something they never thought they could makes everything worthwhile. It isn't always about the number on the scale or the way clothes fit. When I see people exercising because they love it, because it makes them feel good, because it gives them confidence, that's what drive me.

I was born and raised Cypress. I have worn many hats, a jack of many trades you could say. My husband and I decided to settle into our own small plumbing business which allowed me to be home and care for our 4 active boys. Between work and family life I had little time or desire for personal fitness. I never played sports or even watched sports until my boys began to play. I didn’t know the first thing about working out or how to get there. Sometime, roughly 6 years ago, I needed a change, I needed to do something for myself. I began working out at a Globo gym with no desire to return. I stumbled around a bit and found interest in kickboxing. It became a part of my daily routine and sanity for over 2 years. I soon followed Alyssa to Grindhouse to meet each day with a new challenge. That’s where my love for fitness and strength blossomed. I loved that it was physically and emotionally demanding, and each day was different from the last. It became a labor of love and I rarely missed a day of training. I never thought I would be able to help people in the area I for so long struggled with but I’m glad I can do so.

Well it all started back in the good ol’ days in 1993 in my hometown of Detroit, Michigan.  I’ve been in some sort of sport since I can remember.  I was truly captivated when I got to watch Barry Sanders play for the Detroit Lions and after that the rest was history.  I started CrossFit/Weightlifting in 2013.  I was immediately intrigued by the challenge that CrossFit offers as well as the community aspect.  My other passion is simply getting to know people and knowing how I can make their day better.  My faith in God plays a huge part in my life.  I am currently seeking my degree in theology to hopefully one day become a pastor.

I spent my college years in the Student Rec Center doing your typical body building split. Though I had watched the CrossFit Games on TV year after year, I never felt like I could afford the membership. Once I was out of school, a friend of mine begged me to go to some free intro classes at various CrossFit gyms in Houston until she found the one that was right for her. Instead of just being moral support, I was hooked and found a way to make it work. I joined my first CrossFit gym in April 2015 and within a few months, I knew I wanted to become a coach and help others along their fitness journey. So in April 2016, I got my CF L1 and began coaching soon after. I'm a relatively quiet person, so those closest to me were pretty shocked that I showed so much interest in leading classes. However, it has become a true passion of mine. There is no feeling that quite compares to watching an athlete be proud of something they achieved through their own hard work!
